Frequently asked questions about adult surf lessons
Is there an age limit for learning to surf?
Not at all! We regularly welcome adults in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond who are discovering surfing for the first time. The only requirements: being able to swim and being in reasonable physical shape. Surfing has no age limit!
I've never done any board sport — is that a problem?
Not in the slightest. Most of our adult students have never tried skiing, snowboarding or skateboarding. Our instructors start from scratch and teach you step by step. No prior experience needed.
Do adults progress slower than children?
Children sometimes find balance easier, but adults make up for it with better understanding of technique and following instructions. Ultimately, progression depends mainly on motivation and practice!
I'm nervous about the water — can I still try?
A little apprehension is perfectly normal. However, if you have a real phobia of water, the experience may not be enjoyable. If you can swim confidently and put your head underwater, you should be fine.
Are group lessons suitable for complete beginners?
Absolutely. Our adult group lessons are mostly made up of beginners. You won't be the only one falling off! The atmosphere is relaxed and encouraging.
What fitness level do I need?
A moderate fitness level is enough. Surfing works your arms (paddling), cardiovascular system and balance. If you can swim a few lengths and climb stairs without getting winded, you're good to go!
Can I book a private lesson if I'm self-conscious about falling?
Of course! A private lesson lets you learn at your own pace without anyone watching. It's also ideal for faster progression. But know that in group lessons, everyone falls — and that's half the fun!
How many lessons does it take to learn to surf?
You will be riding whitewater from your very first lesson. To stand up consistently, expect 3-5 sessions. To truly catch and ride green waves, it takes regular practice over several weeks or months.
