The Santocha spot is a beach break over sand, producing rights and lefts depending on the sandbar configuration. Frequently asked questions — Webcam and surfing in Capbreton

Is the Capbreton webcam live?

Yes, the Santocha beach webcam in Capbreton streams in real time. The image is updated continuously so you can check surf conditions before heading out. It is the go-to webcam for surfers in Capbreton and the surrounding area.

How do I read surf conditions from the webcam?

Look at the size and consistency of the waves, the wind (smooth surface = offshore, choppy = onshore), and how crowded the lineup is. For beginners, regular waves of 0.5 to 1 metre with light wind are ideal. If you see whitewater everywhere, conditions are rough.

What time of day has the best surf conditions in Capbreton?

Early morning (before 10am) often offers the best conditions at Santocha Beach: light wind and clean waves. In summer, a thermal westerly wind often picks up in the afternoon and degrades conditions. Autumn and spring can deliver quality sessions throughout the day.

Does the webcam work at night?

The webcam relies on natural light. During the day, the image is clear and detailed. At dusk and at night, visibility is reduced. Check it between 7am and 8pm for the best view of conditions.

Is there a webcam at Hossegor or Seignosse?

Other webcams exist along the Landes coast, but the Santocha webcam in Capbreton is the closest to our surf school. It covers Santocha Beach, the ideal spot for beginners and families, located between Hossegor and the Basque Country.

What are the best conditions for a surf lesson in Capbreton?

For a lesson, ideal conditions are: waves of 0.5 to 1 metre, light wind (offshore or none), mid to high tide. The webcam lets you check these conditions live. Our state-certified instructors adapt each session to the day's conditions at Santocha Beach.

Why surf in Capbreton rather than Hossegor?
