View webcamFrequently asked questions about La Piste
Is La Piste suitable for beginners?
No, this spot is not recommended for beginners due to the power of the waves and the currents. If you are learning, head to the Santocha spot instead — it is more sheltered and supervised.
Why are the waves bigger at La Piste?
La Piste is more exposed to Atlantic swells. The lack of natural protection and the orientation of the beach mean waves are generally bigger and more powerful here.
Are there dangerous currents?
Yes, rip currents (baïnes) can form, especially during big swells. Stay alert and never surf alone if you do not know the spot.
How do I get to La Piste?
Via the beach road from Capbreton or Hossegor. Several pedestrian paths from the car parks lead through the dunes to the beach. The cycle path along the coast also provides access.
When is the best time to surf at La Piste?
Autumn (September-November) offers the best conditions with consistent swells and often offshore winds. Summer can be good but the swell tends to be smaller.
